Blazers Tame the Lions

The Lady Blazers continued their winning ways on Friday evening as they were able to notch another home conference win as they would defeat the Lions from Broadfording Christian Academy, 49-16. It took the Blazers a couple of minutes to get going as the game started a little slow and was tied 4-4, 2 minutes into the game. "Broadfording was very scrappy tonight and gave us everything we could handle in the first couple minutes," remarked Coach Ward. Molle Stake was the spark plug for the offense as she was able to hit 2 3's in the first quarter.

It was the 2nd quarter where the girls really turned it on. Coach Ward made the call to switch from their 2-3 zone to a man-to-man defense, to try and speed up the game as the team really excels in transition and when they can run and gun. Ward commented, "I really like the pressure we created with our man-to-man defense tonight. The Blazers would win the 2nd quarter 18-3. Amber would catch fire from behind the 3 point arc as she hit 3 3's in the 2nd quarter. The Blazers entered halftime up 30-8.

The 2nd half proved to be much of the same as the Lions were never able to get back into the game. Amber Yanosik paced the Blazers with 22 points. Coach Ward remarked that "Amber was outstanding". Her backcourt mate Laurel Reitz was not far behind as she chipped in 18 points as well. This backcourt is beginning to make these high-scoring nights a regular occurrence and they are only juniors. Rounding out the scoring for the Blazers, Stake finished with 6. Sarah Vandersleen had a very strong finish through contact for her lone bucket, and Emmalyn Hott hit a free throw.

The Blazers will look to continue their strong play this week, as the team will switch pace and play a string of 3 non-conference games this week. As they will travel down to Hagarstown to play St. Maria and Goretti. They will also play host to Carlise Christian and familiar foe, Rosedale Baptist.
