Blazers Topple Grace

This past Saturday the Lady Blazers were looking at a chance to pick up a 2nd straight conference win in as many days. The night before the Blazers were finally able to take down rival Shalom, on the road. About 24 hours later the girls took to their home floor to prove that Friday night was no fluke.

CVCS was able to sweep the regular-season series against the Grace Academy Knights.  As they would go onto win 61-32. It was a close game at the end of the 1st as CVCS lead 10-5. It took a while for the Blazers to get into their rhythm. In the second quarter, they were able to create a little more space on the scoreboard as they would go into the locker room up 28-11. Laurel Reitz lead the charge for the Blazers with 10 first-half points, as it turned out she was only just getting started.

Whatever Coach Ward said at halftime lit a spark and the Blazers all but ended the game in the 3rd quarter. "It was that 3rd quarter where we put them away. We outscored them 22-10" Ward remarked. That wasn't all that happened in this quarter as Reitz put the icing on the cake of her stellar night by scoring her 1,000th career point, on a transition pull-up 3 right in front of the Blazer bench. "Having Laurel eclipse the 1,000 point was truly special" said Coach.

Laurel ended up pouring in 25 points on the night, she also had 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 7 steals. Amber had her steady performance of 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists as well. Amber had notched her 1,000th point a couple games earlier.  Sophomore Emmalyn Hott chipped in 8 points off the bench. While Brylee Moats was the unsung hero of the game scoring 6 points, but pulling down an astounding 14 rebounds. When asked about her dominant performance of the glass she said, "Boxing out is just something that had to be done. I came out wanting to be more aggressive. I didn't even realize I had that many rebounds."

Commenting on the overall performance Coach said, "I was very happy with our teams' performance, especially after such a big win the night before at Shalom. It shows the growth of this team and our program, that we continue to keep getting better with every opportunity put in front of us"
