Girls Push Win Streak to 3

The Lady Blazers got off to a hot start and never looked back against Faith. They lead from tip to buzzer and controlled the game. Laurel Reitz and Amber Yanosik set the tone early scoring all of the team's first-quarter points. Amber was able to stretch the defense out by hitting some early 3's. She was then able to attack the closeouts and get to the rim. While Laurel was getting loose out in the open court. She was causing havoc on defense causing turnovers of all kinds, which would lead to easy lay-ups on the other end. She even had one for the highlight reel where she was able to spin away from the defender and finish with her right hand.

The Blazers ended any hope of a competitive game by winning the first quarter 21-6. Amber had 9 in the first quarter, while Laurel paced the Blazers with 12. At the half, these two had combined for 30 points. The final score was 55-27.

The defense was really what won the game. They started out in man to man defense which was causing Faith headaches. From there Coach Ward changed pace and went with a 2-3 zone about halfway through the first and the Falcons were never able to get comfortable. Mollee Stake is one of the best help-side defenders you will find at this level and was able to draw 2 charges, which is nothing out of the ordinary.

Here is what Coach Ward had to say, "We came out with a great focus on the defensive side of the ball. We created a lot of havoc with our ball pressure and forced 12 turnovers in the first quarter."

Aiding in the scoring was sophomore Emmalynn Hott who came off the bench and hit a 3. Brylee Moats was able to contribute 3 as well hitting a free throw and receiving a nifty pass from Reitz. Sarah Vandersleen had a sick post-move off of an assist from Reitz.

When asked about her performance Laurel mentioned that the team had suffered two tough losses, and that has been big for refocusing them and getting them locked in for each game. Reitz also said she has been, "doing whatever the team needs from her each game, being more aggressive scoring or looking to set up teammates, or just play tough defense."

While the team will be pleased with this performance they are not satisfied with it. "I love that we are progressing as a team, but we still have a ways to go before accomplishing our goals", according to Coach Ward.

The Lady Blazers will look to continue working toward those goals, and extending the winning streak to 4  on Friday when they match up with conference foe Broadfording.
