Blazers Build Momentum

The past couple of weeks from the Blazers have been up and down. They have faced some adversity and gotten out of the regular season flow. Typically they would be playing 2-3 games a week, this has not been the case lately. Due to snow, and conditions out of their control, they have a very disjointed end to their regular season.  They have only played about 5 games in the last 3 weeks, and that has had its effect on the team. They have lost 3 tough games in that stretch, one of them losing at the buzzer to the #1 seed in the conference, and another heartbreaker to their cross-town rival. Along with that, they have multiple games canceled, some even just a few hours before tip-off.

Yet that has not deterred or distracted them from their goals and finishing the season off the best way they know. They traveled down to Fredrick, MD to take on the New Life Christian School Rams, and they were able to get back to their winning ways. New Life gave them everything they could handle early and at the end of the, it was 14-10. Junior guard Mollee Stake keyed the Blazers early as she buried 2 3s and a lay-up to score 8 points in the 1st quarter alone. The Blazers created some distance heading into half where they would lead 29-21.

From that point on, the Blazer's tremendous backcourt duo of Amber Yanosik and Laurel Reitz took over. Amber ended up pouring on 18 2nd half points and finished the game with 25. Laurel Reitz was not far behind adding 15 of her own. With the final score being 55-38. Stake finished with 11. Bigs Mackenzie Sites and Brylee Moats each contributed 2 points

According to Coach Ward, it was the defense that sparked the Blazers. " Our defense was the key tonight, in the 2nd half we went to a 2-3 zone and were able to rebound out of that very well"

This could prove to be the spark the Blazers need as they turn their attention to the post-season tournament. They finished the season as the 2nd seed, which ensures that the road to the finals comes through their gym as they will host a first-round playoff match up with the Grace Academy Knights. The Blazers are looking to return to the Final Four for a 3rd straight year.
