Blazers Tame the Lions

The Lady Blazers continued their winning ways on Friday evening as they were able to notch another home conference win as they would defeat the Lions from Broadfording Christian Academy, 49-16. It took the Blazers a couple of minutes to get going as the game started a little slow and was tied 4-4, 2 minutes into the game. "Broadfording was very scrappy tonight and gave us everything we could handle in the first couple minutes," remarked Coach Ward. Molle Stake was the spark plug for the offense as she was able to hit 2 3's in the first quarter.  It was the 2nd quarter where the girls really turned it on. Coach Ward made the call to switch from their 2-3 zone to a man-to-man defense, to try and speed up the game as the team really excels in transition and when they can run and gun.  The Lady Blazers got off to a hot start and never looked back against Faith. They lead from tip to buzzer and controlled the game. Laurel Reitz and Amber Yanosik set the tone early scoring all of the team's first-quarter points. Amber was able to stretch the defense out by hitting some early 3's. She was then able to attack the closeouts and get to the rim. While Laurel was getting loose out in the open court. She was causing havoc on defense causing turnovers of all kinds, which would lead to easy lay-ups on the other end. She even had one for the highlight reel where she was able to spin away from the defender and finish with her right hand.  The Blazers ended any hope of a competitive game by winning the first quarter 21-6. Amber had 9 in the first quarter, while Laurel paced the Blazers with 12. At the half, these two had combined for 30 points. The final score was 55-27. The defense was really what won the game.
